Located in L.A. (lower Alabama) our alpaca farm, Alabama Peanuts & Pacas is in the heart of peanut country. For several decades dad has produced many crops of fine peanuts on this land. Ride down the country roads and you might see other crops being grown such as corn and cotton. You might also see livestock such as cows, hogs and goats in pastures as you drive by. And now one can drive down our farm road and see some of the most enchanting creatures God ever put on the face of this earth, the alpacas.
As a massage therapist and I have devoted many years to helping people relax and feel better. Many come to me for stress and pain relief. I find that my alpacas provide most of the therapy that I need. I really enjoy being around them and listening to their peaceful, humming sounds. My wife works for a local bank and helps me with the alpacas.

She and I traded the city life for the country life in 1999 and we love it so. I was raised on the farm and after living in a larger city for 29 years I was ready to be back in the country. In 2001 we got into the goat business but I soon found out that raising goats was a lot of work, especially dealing with a lot of parasite problems and other health issues. After about 3 years of dealing with goats I was ready to get rid of them and sold the entire herd. After that is when we bought our first alpacas.
We have found that alpacas are much easier to raise and they have fewer health problems. Alpacas are very enjoyable to be around and most of them really seem to like people, especially children. Alpacas can make excellent 4-H projects for kids. An interesting note is that most alpaca owners are women and most come with no prior livestock experience.
Many people really enjoy showing alpacas, winning ribbons and prizes. You can greatly increase the value of your animals by taking some ribbons. Most all the offspring we have produced we feel like are show quality and could bring home some ribbons.
